Yes I’m late.
This will be a quick post because you’ve all seen this a long time ago but I got tired of hearing how good the show was and finally decided to sit down and start it. If you’re unaware, Snowfall is an FX crime show currently on season 4. I don’t know why it missed me. I love crime shows, I love shows about black people, I love shows about black people becoming successful(even if its from crime), so this should have been right up my alley. I think the problem was that it was on the same time power was and I picked power, then I hated Power, so I quit the genre in general. Thankfully this ain’t that.
Snowfall is closer to The Wire, but instead of switching from the criminals POV to the cops POV, it switched to other criminals POV. In this case the criminals happen to be the CIA so maybe there is a bit of overlap but still. Its basically the ‘basedonatrue’-story of how the CIA sold coke to fund wars, and how that led to the crack epidemic in the 80’s. It takes lots of liberties with the truth but its fun character-driven story that keeps me on the edge of my seat every episode. I understand why people love it. My biggest complaint is I feel like the show glosses over the drug dealing aspect. Its about hustlers and business people coming up in the world, but not about the backs of the people they are stepping on to get there. Again I’m only just starting so maybe in later seasons that’s explored but the show is more about the grimy street aspect and not about the lives drugs are ruining.
My biggest question is, am I hooked? Because I kind of feel like I get it, you know? DO i really need to keep watching? I assume bad things happen then they overcome those bad things for the season finale, same ol’ same ol’. I dont feel like this has its hooks in me like some other shows. I know it will be good but I dont know if I want to binge watch 3 more seasons of it. There’s too many good movies and too much TV for me to devote that much time to “fine”. I dunno, time will tell let me know in the comments if I am a madman.
